Thanksgiving is not only a long, four day feast, it also offers an opportunity to celebrate family values, reunite with people we haven't seen for months and - why not - watch spectacular football games.
All these and more can be easily enhanced with suitable decorations, which include themed plates. To help you find the initial setting and some inspiration, we made a lovely selection of Thanksgiving paper plates.
We all know a traditional Thanksgiving dinner should look alike, but turkeys, stuffing, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pies, corn on the cob and cranberries were not present at first Thanksgiving.
By the way, this classic American celebration is in Canada (where people celebrate Thanksgiving in October) sometimes called Yanksgiving, in New York Macy's Day (after the big parade of course) or simply T-Day.
It's hard to say which Thanksgiving was actually the first and even harder what was served then, but historians speculate they might serve wild goose, wild duck, wild turkey, deer, lobster, rabbit, chicken, fish, shell fish, eels, squashes, beans, chestnuts, hickory nuts, onions, leeks, dried fruits, maple syrup and honey, radishes, cabbage, carrots, eggs, and goat cheese.
If you think this is a lot of food, don't forget the most famous (although not necessary the first) Thanksgiving gathering at Plymouth lasted for three days and today we actually have four days available!
First settlers didn't rally care about the pumpkins until first winter came and they learned about all the sometimes life saving benefits of this half fruit half vegetable.
Pumpkins are not only part of the Thanksgiving menu, they are also popular Thanksgiving decor. They are used in different colors, sizes and shapes and even if we don't have a real pumpkin on the table, we can enjoy in Thanksgiving menu served on Thanksgiving paper plates with pumpkin images.
Although a Thanksgiving is hardly imagined without a turkey, there are several alternatives to turkey for thanksgiving. Dungeness crab (Metacarcinus magister) is widely popular along the West coast of USA and baking a pre-cooked ham can be great time saver.
Other rule breakers include stylish dishes like honey-glazed lamb, Dutch originated smoked pork sausage or turducken (turkey stuffed with a duck being stuffed with a chicken) which is very popular in Louisiana, all the way to the tofurkey for vegetarians.
What about the stuffing? Statistics claim above half of Americans use it and it is known in numerous versions across the country. While Southern states still prefer cornbread, the rest mostly use white bread. Like at many other culinary secrets, the right effect is achieved with with additions which are much more variated. Apples, apricots, celery, chestnuts, hazelnuts, herbs, onions, oysters, pears, raisins and sausage pieces are only few of numerous options to make an already celebratory meal a memorable feast.
Melamine plates
Average cost of Thanksgiving dinner is less than five dollars per person. Another fun fact (kids will love it!): the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag Indians ate with spoons, but didn't have forks. They also used knives and of course - fingers. Let's conclude our selection with few unique Thanksgiving themed plates made of melamine!
We hope you enjoyed in our selection. Among Thanksgiving paper plates we also included few melamine ones with the same theme. Don't forget - every plate is customizable, so you can include your our wordings and images as well. Happy Thanksgiving!
